How patients agree to text messages

Effective date:

JardogsHealth hosts this page on behalf of Litchfield Family Practice Center, LLP, which provides its patient text messaging through the JardogsHealth platform.

This page shows how patients of Litchfield Family Practice Center, LLP agree to receive text messages from “Litchfield Family Practice Center Patient Texts.” Patients give the practice their mobile number when they register. When they check in for a visit, on the online check-in link or on the check-in tablet in the office, the privacy notice step asks them to choose Yes or No to text messages. Either answer lets them finish check-in.

The text message question

Litchfield Family Practice check-in screen titled Two quick choices. It asks “May we send you text messages about your appointments and care?” with Yes and No buttons, and explains that texts include appointment reminders, check-in links, and messages from the care team, that message and data rates may apply, and to reply STOP to stop.

The question, word for word: “May we send you text messages about your appointments and care?”

Shown under the question: “Text messages and email are not encrypted. Someone else could read them, for example on a shared phone or account. Messages from the practice may include your name and appointment details.”

Shown under “Why do we ask?”: “Text messages. Things like appointment reminders, check-in links and messages from your care team. If you choose No, your practice won't send you texts, including appointment reminders and check-in links. This replaces any choice you made before. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop.”

The privacy notice

On the same step, the patient reads and acknowledges the practice's Notice of Privacy Practices, which includes this text message consent:

“I agree that Litchfield Family Practice and its service providers may contact me at this number by text message and by automated or artificial or prerecorded voice calls about my appointments, care, and billing and payment matters. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out. Consent is not a condition of receiving care.”

What happens with the answer

  • Each answer is recorded with the date, the time, and the wording the patient was shown.
  • Patients who choose No receive no text messages from the practice, including appointment reminders and check-in links.
  • Patients can reply STOP to any message to stop all texts, or HELP for help, or call 217-324-6127.
  • Agreeing to text messages is optional and is not a condition of receiving care.
