    Retired SVP/CIO, Discover Card Services

Bill Floyd helped build the technology organization behind Discover Card. As Discover Financial Services' senior information technology executive, serving as Chief Information Officer for more than a decade, he helped guide the company's growth from its early beginnings to 36 million card accounts and a nationwide merchant network.

During his 13 years at Discover, Bill grew the IT organization from a founding group of about five people to more than 300 employees and a comparable number of contractors.

His responsibilities included technology architecture, software development, production operations, change management, vendor relationships, and systems delivery. His team supported the company's rapid growth while maintaining the reliability, security, and transaction integrity required of a national card network.

Earlier in his career at Sears, Bill worked in corporate planning and new business development. He contributed to early initiatives that led to Discover Card, SPS Transaction Services, electronic bill payment, and enhanced ATM and kiosk services. He also participated in the IBM, CBS, and Sears joint venture that became Prodigy.

Bill holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Bill was born and raised in Hillsboro, Illinois, where his parents ran Mobley's Drug Store and Mobley's Annex café on South Main Street, and he graduated from Hillsboro High School. He still owns the family farm on Cress Hill, which he and his wife, Marilyn, plan to make their primary home in 2027.

He continues to take an interest in business strategy, technology, organizational development, and the future of smaller communities like his hometown of Hillsboro.
